Sell graded cards individually or as part of sets?
I have a fat collection of sports cards that I want to sell. They are from the early 1970's through the late 1980's. I have a lot of key rookies which I suppose I will have graded.
My question is: would it make sense to sell the graded rookies/key cards as a part of sets so that I can get rid of larger portions of the collection or should I only sell the key graded cards and basically throw away the rest of the sets?
Will selling the graded cards as part of larger lots slim down interest since some people wouldn't want all the other cards?
In marketing, mixing the plummy cards with the less desirable is standard practice. The best way will be to say you are selling card A, and including card B and C free. Another way is to say the appraisal for card A alone is ($) and you can add B and C for just ($) more.
It is always easier to find fewer buyers, than to find many, but selling sets means making less wherewithal.
From what I see, don't be too surprised if you can't find any buyers at all. Thousands of cards are offered on e-bay every day, and they do not find buyers.
